12149 Small Vintage Turkish Esme Kilim Rug 50x92cm (1.7½ x 3ft)

A stunning little flat woven Turkish wool Kilim Rug that has been handmade in a village near the town of Esme, in Turkey's Western Usak Province. Woven in the flat slit-weave technique, this unique Kelim rug is an authentic old piece and it measures approx 50x92cm (1.7½ x 3ft) excluding any fringes - we love the colourful central medallions with motifs at each end.  Although this rug is woven in 99% wool the bright colours in some of the motifs are woven in bright coloured cotton - this gives a completely different look in that cotton stays bright and fades less over time so that's why the bright detail is still so bright!  See more about Rug Motifs, Symbols & Meaning here.

The Usak region of Turkey has been famous for many years for its flat woven rugs and its folk art kilim weaving traditions and they still make new rugs in this region.  Kilim Rugs from Esme normally have geometric or striped patterns using hand-spun wool and are renowned for their Mihrab, geometric designs and beautiful colours.
