Long runner size original Vintage Moldova Rose Kilim (Kelim) runner rug from Eastern Europe - flat woven using Kilim technique in wool and featuring a decorative floral design. We don't often find runners in this type of rug. A perfect narrow and long size suitable for a corridor or hallway. This authentic vintage Bessarabian Kilim measures approximately 60x317cm (1.11½ x 10.4½ft) excluding any fringes - we love the dark background together with the rose pinks, greens and petrol blues in this long runner. Traditional Eastern European Moldova Kilims usually have continuous, flowing rose floral patterns and characteristically have natural black or brown borders or backgrounds; they have a "folky" similarity to the Caucasian Karabagh weavings which are found between the Black Sea and Caspian Sea. These kilims are very distinct with their bold, floral gypsy like designs - they have been woven for many years while the region was under Turkish Ottoman Rule. Bessarabian is a general term given to weavings from ex Soviet regions including Ukraine. Moldova borders Romania to the West and Ukraine to the Southern, Eastern and Northern borders.
