Eastern European Moldova Kilims usually have continuous, flowing floral patterns and characteristically have natural black or brown borders or backgrounds; they have a "folky" similarity to the Caucasian Karabagh weavings which are found between the Black Sea and Caspian Sea.

These kilims are very distinct with their bold, floral gypsy like designs - they have been woven for many years while the region was under Turkish Ottoman Rule.  Bessarabian is a general term given to weavings from ex Soviet regions including Ukraine.  Moldova borders Romania to the West and Ukraine to the Southern, Eastern and Northern borders.
