Unique vintage rose flower Moldova pile wool rug from Eastern Europe - thickly hand-knotted in wool using a decorative bold and colourful floral pattern. This authentic Bessarabian Moldovan rug is semi antique and measures approximately 155x190cm (5.1 x 6.2½ft) excluding any fringes - these pile Moldova rugs are very rare, we don't see them often, they have a lovely thick luscious wool pile, perfect to sink your feet into - we love the wonderful, comforting feel this wooly rug has. Eastern European Moldova rugs usually have continuous, flowing floral patterns and characteristically have natural black or brown borders or backgrounds (this is mostly in the flatweaves); they have a "folky" similarity to the Caucasian Karabagh weavings which are found between the Black Sea and Caspian Sea. These pile rugs however tend to have central floral medallions and a plainer outer pattern of intertwining roses and flowers with lovely gypsy inspired designs. They have been woven for many years while the region was under Turkish Ottoman Rule. Bessarabian is a general term given to weavings from ex Soviet regions including Ukraine.
