A rarely found hand-knotted vintage Turkish Selendi rug handmade with a wool pile. This piece measures approx 79x121cm (2.7 x 3.11½ft) excluding any tassels (however including the long tassels it is 136cm long) - we absolutely love this little rug, it has the most wonderful colours and feel, we just don't see rugs like this very often any more. It has an interesting compartmentalised central pattern and unusual border - we love those long tassels! This is an original village made piece. See more about Rug Motifs, Symbols & Meaning here.
Selendi is a town and district of Manisa Province in the Aegean region of Turkey in the West. Selendi Rugs usually incorporate a stripe (mostly in kilim runners) or a geometric square design using a weaving technique known as zilli or cicim which is where the flat weave kilim is then over embroidered. Selendi pile rugs, however are very rarely found these days.
