Product Information

This is an unusual vintage hand-knotted pile rug from Dazkiri which is a Turkish village near the town of Afyon in Central Anatolia (Turkey) - this beautiful handmade piece of folk art would look lovely as a rug on the floor or on the wall.  This unique rug is an authentic vintage piece and it measures approx 62x119cm (2.0½ x 3.11ft) - woven in wool on wool - we love the very unusual nature of this small rug, it has a low pile but beautiful colours. See more about Rug Motifs, Symbols & Meaning here.

These hand-knotted woven rugs are made by the Turkmen Yoruk tribes - the descendants of the Turkic tribes that settled in Central Anatolia hundreds of years ago, in the mountainous countryside inland from the Aegean coast.  The name Afyon (Kara Hisar) means, literally “opium black castle” in Turkish, since opium was widely grown here and there is a castle on a black rock.  For information on our underlays for rugs look here.
