Vintage Turkish Kilim from Afyon - hand-woven in wool in the flat-weave technique with cicim detail. This original wool Kilim measures approximately 121x149cm (3.11½ x 4.10½ft) excluding any tassels - we love the pretty colourful stripes in oranges, greens and reds together with the cicim weave emblems woven throughout this kilim. These flat woven rugs are made by the Turkmen Yoruk tribes - the descendants of the Turkic tribes that settled in Central Anatolia hundreds of years ago, in the mountainous countryside inland from the Aegean coast. The name Afyon (Kara Hisar) means, literally “opium black castle” in Turkish, since opium was widely grown here and there is a castle on a black rock.
