Unique Turkish Kilim from Kutahya - hand-woven in flat-weave slit-weave technique. This original wool Kilim measures approximately 179x285cm (5.10½ x 9.4ft) excluding any tassels - this rug has a very unusual colour way and design, we love those dark browns and the hints of green and orange together with the detailed lucky symbols woven in cicim weave technique. See more about Rug Motifs, Symbols & Meaning here.
These flat woven rugs are made by the Turkmen Yoruk tribes - the descendants of the Turkic tribes that settled in Central Anatolia hundreds of years ago, in the mountainous countryside inland from the Aegean coast. Kutahya, during the Ottoman empire was renowned for its handmade ceramics, making the most gorgeous decorative tiles for mosques and other important buildings all over the Middle East and porcelain and tile making continues today.
