Turkish Kilim Rug handwoven in the Mut region of Southern Turkey (they are also known as Kelims). This traditional kilim is woven using slit weave technique - we love the browny terracotta background and central medallion containing some bright blue cotton highlights. This rug measures approximately 84x116cm (2.9 x 3.10ft) excluding tassels.
These flat woven rugs were originally made by the migratory Taurus Yoruks who were of Central Asian Turkic origin. Today the Yoruks lead a semi-nomadic way of life in the southern Taurus mountain region of Anatolia, moving between summer and winter pastures where they set up their encampments (Yayla). Mut Kilims are not generally woven for export but are woven for the own use of the weaver. See more about Rug Motifs, Symbols & Meaning here.
