Vintage tribal Afghan Baluchi carpet weave saddlebag from Afghanistan. Originally used for storage and also during tribal migration, however today they make great storage pouches either over a chair or on the wall, they also make lovely wall hangings. This Afghan saddlebag measures approximately 62x114cm excluding any tassels - we love this one, the deep warm colours are very cosy and although this saddlebag is 99% woven in wool, the bright green and blue emblems and motifs are highlighted in cotton. Saddlebags feature two kilim or carpet pouches and can vary in size from small like this one to very large sizes - the large sizes would be the ones used over animals for transporting items. This tribal group from Afghanistan are also known as Beluch, Balouch, Belouch, Baluchi, Belouchi to name a few!
