Product Information

Vintage Turkish Emir Dag Kilim village made rug from the outlying villages of a town called Afyon, in Turkey's Aegean region - woven in the flat slit-weave technique. This unique Kelim rug from Turkey is an authentic semi-antique piece and measures approx 99x166cm (3.3 x 5.5½ft) excluding any fringes - this one has the most unusual folk art design and gorgeous colours, just look at those wonderful emblems and symbols! See more about Rug Motifs, Symbols & Meaning here.

Woven by the Turkmen Yoruk tribes - the descendants of the Turkic tribes that settled in Anatolia hundreds of years ago, in the mountainous countryside inland from the Aegean coast.  The name Afyon (Kara Hisar) means, literally “opium black castle” in Turkish, since opium was widely grown here and there is a castle on a black rock.
