Turkish Kilim Rug handwoven in the Mut region of Southern Turkey (they are also known as Kelims). Woven in the flat slit-weave technique this traditional rug is absolutely stunning with the most gorgeous colours, we love the bright cobalt blue! This rug measures approximately 75cm wide by 113cm long and is an authentic old piece ie c.1960s.
These flat woven rugs were originally made by the migratory Taurus Yoruks who were of Central Asian Turkic origin. Today the Yoruks lead a semi-nomadic way of life in the southern Taurus mountain region of Anatolia, moving between summer and winter pastures where they set up their encampments (Yayla). Mut Kilims are not generally woven for export but are woven for the own use of the weaver.
