Authentic handwoven Turkish Cicim Kilim Rug from the Mut region of Southern Turkey. This traditional Mut Kelim has a complex design and is woven using cicim and zilli weft wrapping weaving techniques. This Kilim measures approximately 89cm wide by 105cm long, is semi-antique circa 1970s and is woven in wool on wool.
These flat woven rugs were originally made by the migratory Taurus Yoruks who were of Central Asian Turkic origin. Today the Yoruks lead a semi-nomadic way of life in the southern Taurus mountain region of Anatolia, moving between summer and winter pastures where they set up their encampments (Yayla). Mut Kilims are not generally woven for export but are woven for the own use of the weaver.
