Handwoven Turkish Kilim Rug from the Mut region of Southern Turkey. This traditional Mut Kelim has a distinctive design and is unusual having a pale green background and an atypical central design - a really beautiful and different rug. This Kilim measures approximately 90cm wide by 119cm long and is semi-antique ie c.1960s and is woven in wool on wool.
These flat woven rugs were originally made by the migratory Taurus Yoruks who were of Central Asian Turkic origin. Today the Yoruks lead a semi-nomadic way of life in the southern Taurus mountain region of Anatolia, moving between summer and winter pastures where they set up their encampments (Yayla). Mut Kilims are not generally woven for export but are woven for the own use of the weaver.
