Handwoven Small Turkish Kilim Rug from the Mut region of Southern Turkey. This traditional Rug has a bold geometric pattern and is flat-woven using flat slit-weave technique in rich colours and a bold design. This Turkish Kilim measures approximately 105cm wide by 114cm long (almost square). This Turkish Kelim rug is semi-antique ie c.1950s.
These flat woven rugs were originally made by the migratory Taurus Yoruks who were of Central Asian Turkic origin. Today the Yoruks lead a semi-nomadic way of life in the southern Taurus mountain region of Anatolia, moving between summer and winter pastures where they set up their encampments (Yayla). Mut Kilims are not generally woven for export but are woven for the own use of the weaver.
