Tree of Life flat woven rug - this traditional Turkish Kilim Rug has been made in a village in the environs of a town called Esme, in Turkey's Western Usak Province - this piece is woven in the flat slit-weave technique with an unusual pale central field, the weaver has used wools in a mixed colour palette of soft red, cream, blue and ochre. This unique Kelim rug from Turkey is an authentic vintage piece ie c.1960s and measures approx 90cm wide by 124cm long - woven in wool. Note the interesting letters within the border pattern.
The Usak region of Turkey has been famous for many years for its flat woven rugs and its folk art kilim weaving traditions and they still make new rugs in this region. Kilim Rugs from Esme normally have geometric or striped patterns using hand-spun wool and are renowned for their Mihrab, geometric designs and beautiful colours. These older, original pieces are popular as they have so much individuality.
