Quirky Turkish Kilim Rug from Erzurum in Eastern Anatolia - This is a very unusual Kilim with such a deep coloured background and bright colourful accents in cotton around and within the motifs and amulets. Woven in the traditional flat slit-weave technique using lots of natural un-dyed wool in the background. This unique Kelim rug from Turkey is an authentic semi-antique piece ie c.1960s and measures approx 106cm wide by 151cm long - woven in wool.
Generally Erzurum Kilims are in the prayer niche design although this one defies that rule! That being said, they do tend to have a less bright appearance than some of the counterparts. There is a large Kurdish population in the East of Turkey and so influence in the weavings is found from Armenia, Russia and Persia.
