Turkish Kilim Rug from the Mut region of Southern Turkey. This traditional Kelim has an unusual colour combination and although a bold design, the rug has an over all calming feel. Woven in lots of natural un-dyed wool using flat slit-weave technique. This Turkish Kilim measures approximately 98cm wide by 164cm long (almost square). This flat woven rug is semi-antique ie c.1960s.
Turkish Mut Kilims were originally woven by the migratory Taurus Yoruks who were of Central Asian Turkic origin. Today the Yoruks lead a semi-nomadic way of life in the southern Taurus mountain region of Anatolia, moving between summer and winter pastures where they set up their encampments (Yayla). Mut Kilims are not generally woven for export but are woven for the own use of the weaver.
