Traditional village made Ozdemir Turkish Kilim Rug from the environs of a town called Manisa in the Aegean region of West Turkey. Woven in the flat-weave Kilim technique with decorative cicim and zilli embroidery (supplementary weft wrapping) of motifs and emblems. Lots of intricate detail against a red/terracotta background. This unique Kelim rug from Turkey is an authentic semi-antique piece ie c.1960s and measures approx 125cm wide by 176cm long - woven in wool on wool.
Manisa is an old city not far from Izmir, it is an industrial region but has lots of farming and agriculture in the outlying areas. The villages surrounding Manisa are famous for their prized weavings such as Yunt Dağı, Gördes and Kula, although weaving has all but stopped in this area.
