Large Persian Shiraz tribal rug from the surrounding countryside and villages of Shiraz in southern Persia. This is an original nomadic and authentic hand-knotted wool carpet with wool pile and wool foundation and measures approximately 199x271cm (6.6 x 8.10½ft) - we love the great quality of this strong rug, it has wonderful warm and rich colours and an intricate design with many birds, symbols and animals. These rugs from tribal areas of Southern Persia have geometric designs and have a real rustic essence - generally they have good quality hand-spun wool with earthy or red colours - you often see animals and birds in Shirazi rugs. We really like the city of Shiraz in Southern Persia, it's quite a relaxed place and has small water ways running along the streets to help keep the walkways cool in summer. The Bazaar E Vakil is very interesting being one of the oldest bazaars in the world. Traditional shops and crafts still exist in and around the bazaar such as copper work, selling of spices and of course, the rug and carpet trade! Look her for information on our Underlays.
