A handwoven vintage Turkish Palas Kilim (Kelim) Rug from the Denizli region of Turkey. These are authentic village made kilims known as palas rugs which are simple, striped plain floor coverings. These rugs are made using the flatweave Kilim technique and are often made in multiple panels and then sewn together to make a larger piece. Mostly they come in the natural colours you find in sheep wool, such as creams, greys and browns but occasionally you can find some indigo blue dyes in the stripes. This nomadic flatweave from Turkey measures approximately 139x178cm (4.6½ x 5.10ft) excluding any fringes - we love the sheep wool browns and creams in this village kilim rug together with the alternating cream and brown in the central join. Denizli is a Province in the high country between the Aegean and Mediterranean regions western of Turkey - these Kilims are woven by Turkmen Yoruk tribes - the descendants of the Turkic tribes that settled in Anatolia hundreds of years ago. Find out more about our Underlays for Rugs here.
