Large size Afghan Kazak Mamluk design rug of high quality made by Afghan Hazara Weavers (known as "Super Kazaks"). The Mamluk design used in these rugs is usually made up of a single central medallion reaching out from the centre of the rug, often surrounded by oblong panels which feature motifs of stylized trees and leaf designs. The patterns are very intricate and complex. This large Afghan Kazak Rug Measures approximately 222x328cm (7.3½ x 10.9ft) - we love the gorgeous, intricate pattern in this fine quality rug together with the gorgeous blue colour way.  Find out more about Rug Motifs, Symbols & Meaning here.

These carpets are newly made and luckily, are still being produced although not so often in the Mamluk pattern, they are hand-knotted using tightly spun wool. Kazak Rugs have a short pile with a beautiful sheen, almost like silk which is due to the superior hand spun wool used and the gentle washing process of the rug after it has been woven. The designs are generally Caucasian in origin having first been produced by Armenian weavers in the 1800’s. Patterns have been passed down through the generations. The designs are colourful, bold and geometric with beautiful abrash with no two being the same. We are pleased that the weavers are now incorporating the patterns of the Mamluk rugs. The origin of the Mamluk design comes from Egypt and continued to be woven after the Ottoman conquest of Egypt in the 15th century. The original Mamluk rugs were produced for domestic use as well as export. During festivals and celebrations, these carpets were used to line the streets as dignitaries paraded the avenues.
