A rare hand-knotted vintage Turkish Selendi rug with wool pile. This piece measures approx 82x115cm (2.8 x 3.9ft) excluding any tassels - this is a really lovely yoruk rug in a prayer niche design with a decorative central field filled with flowers and stars in the border. Selendi is a town and district of Manisa Province in the Aegean region of Turkey in the West. Selendi Rugs usually incorporate a stripe (mostly in kilim runners) or a geometric square design using a weaving technique known as zilli or cicim which is where the flat weave kilim is then over embroidered. Selendi pile rugs, however are very rarely found these days.
