Vintage Kurdish Herki Pile Rug (also known by their tribal origin as “Hartushi”) - these are fabulous vintage hand-knotted tribal rugs from the Kurdish heartland of the Eastern Turkish/Iraqi border and they don't come up often. This piece is woven in wool and its very rare to get one this shape as they are mostly runners. This heavy duty rug measures approx 122x201cm (4 x 6.7ft) excluding any tassels - we love the stunning soft colours and gorgeous wool in this lovely old rug. Herki Kurds are actually part of a much greater Kurdish population. The Kurds are made up of a number of clans, tribes, and tribal confederations, many of which have been in existence for thousands of years. These rugs come from the southern part of the Hakkari mountains and are normally woven in long wide sizes, often they have small borders and large dramatic medallions running through the centre and also all over patterns. These are great substantial solid rugs that will last many years!  Typically these hallway corridor rugs would have wool warps and wefts, they use good strong wool that takes dyeing well - made to last with lots of charm and character!
