10377 Fine Afghan Baluch Prayer Rug 73x125cm (2.4½ x 4.1ft)

Finely Hand-knotted Original Baluch Rug from Herat environs of West Afghanistan. The Baluch are also known as Beluch, Balouch, Belouch, Baluchi, Belouchi.   This Authentic Afghan rug measures approximately 73x125cm (2.4½ x 4.1ft) - this is a very quirky prayer rug, we love the hands in the design at the top, plus the little people in the lower section of the rug -  it also has an inscription which although we cannot easily decipher it, it would be related to a prayer or the weavers family.

Baluch rugs come in many types however they often have richer colours such as reds and terracottas, blues, blacks and occasionally greens and other colours. The designs are geometric but sometimes the prayer niche (Mihrab) or tree of life design can be found. Usually these rugs are small to medium in size as they would be woven on simple wooden portable ground looms, they are not often very wide. The wool used on these fine Baluchi Rugs is of good quality with a lovely soft feel and slight sheen.
